This project aims to empower women in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan through tourism entrepreneurship, addressing the limited participation of women in mountain tourism despite its potential to boost household income and promote gender equality. By examining the experiences of women entrepreneurs, the project highlights the transformative impact of tourism on their financial control, decision-making, confidence, and societal empowerment. It identifies internal and external barriers faced by these women and advocates for policy interventions to support their entrepreneurial efforts. The project will develop a framework to foster women’s entrepreneurship in tourism, contributing to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), with the goal of inspiring broader participation and promoting sustainable economic growth in remote mountain regions.
