The goal of this project is to rehabilitate and integrate ex-inmates into the Nigerian society by equipping them with vocational skills for the job market. My idea was to organize a skill acquisition and empowerment program that would bring people who have been to prison together with entrepreneurs to learn different sustainable and marketable skills for the job market. The design of the empowerment program commences with a one-day workshop which is the inauguration of the program as well as the formal introduction of the scheme. Afterwards, the ex-inmates are enrolled in the skill of their choice where they acquire sufficient training for the next three months.
During my time at ISA, I came up with a theme for the scheme, “After the Bars”. Furthermore, I expanded the scope of the vision to encompass children who are currently locked up in juvenile centres in Nigeria. My goal is to continuously organize outreaches to the centres across all Nigerian states to train the children in skills which can make their rehabilitation processes in these centres reformatory. I also intend to provide them with moral guidance to help the development of their social values and finally, I plan to adopt the homeless ones after serving them terms.
