The Urban Farming for Food Security initiative tackles food insecurity and unemployment in Nigeria by utilising climate-smart agricultural technology to increase food production, enhance access to affordable food products and accelerate agribusiness skill acquisition amongst the large population of unemployed Nigerian women and youth.
The project's methodology involves setting up environmentally sustainable food systems that utilise climate-adaptive techniques to address food security challenges. To achieve our objectives, climate-smart farms (called Vert City Farms) have been set up to provide regular access to fresh organic food products in urban areas and practical skill-based training and financial support have been provided to empower youths and women with the necessary business skills to run profitable Agricultural ventures.
The Urban Farming for Food Security project directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2 - Zero Hunger, SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production.
The project objectives are Food Security and Economic Empowerment.
